- Keelung River riverside parks — Rainbow and Meiti parks on the right bank, Guanshan and Yingfeng on the left. In December 2022 the city's tourism department recommended these open riverside parks for a view without the plaza crowd.

- Si Si Nan Cun — Close to the tower. The tourism department suggested it as a viewing spot in December 2022, and last year (New Year 2026) it hosted one of the party's four extra stages, so expect crowds.
Getting there
- The closest MRT stops are Taipei City Hall (Bannan Line) and Taipei 101/World Trade Center (Tamsui-Xinyi Line), but both get extremely crowded. Last year (New Year 2026) the metro operator recommended Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, Yongchun, Xinyi Anhe or Xiangshan stations as less crowded alternatives.
- After the countdown, queues on the Bannan and Tamsui-Xinyi lines can be long. Last year (New Year 2026) the operator suggested walking about 20 minutes to Nanjing Sanmin or Taipei Arena station on the Songshan-Xindian Line, where rides entered between 22:30 and 06:00 were announced as free.
- Last year (New Year 2026) Taipei Metro announced non-stop service for 42 hours around the countdown. Check the operator's announcement in late December for this year's hours.

How Taipei celebrates
Taipei welcomes the New Year with fireworks launched from Taipei 101, the skyscraper in the Xinyi District, timed to the midnight countdown at the city's party on the plaza in front of Taipei City Hall.
The tower has staged a New Year's Eve fireworks show since the 2004-05 countdown, when the first display lasted just 35 seconds. Recent shows have run for around six minutes, set to music, and the party below draws crowds of well over 100,000 people.
Beyond the plaza, riverside parks along the Keelung River, hillside trails such as Elephant Mountain and the Si Si Nan Cun area offer other views of the tower. January 1 is a public holiday, while the Lunar New Year is celebrated separately with a five-day official break.
